SPAN rollers are specially seasoned before they are ground and polished to accurate dimensions. SPAN rollers are tailor made to OEM specifications with exacting standards for accuracy and performance.

Typically, rollers are covered with elastomeric compositions to allow the creation of a uniform pressure zone called a "NIP." To insure the nip region remains constant, the properties of the roll covering must be stable. Also an effective covering must not change appreciably in use, as determined largely by the environment (e.g. solvent and chemical exposure), as well as the dynamic properties of the roll covering. The rubber compounds may be modified or tailored to some degree to provide flexibility within their own inherent limitations.
